The plunger is a Storz & Bickel tool for opening and closing dosing capsules. It grabs the capsule lid evenly, which prevents the bending that happens when you pry lids off by hand.
After a few heat cycles, capsule lids fit more tightly and become harder to open with fingers alone. The plunger makes this simple: grab the cap and lift it off cleanly, or place a cap on a filled capsule and press the button to release it.
