Quartz balls form the thermal matrix inside the Tempest cap, taking the place of the standard zirconia. Around 50 pieces at 3 mm come in the set.
At 1.4 g, this is the lightest cap fill of any material available for the Tempest, so warm-up is the quickest of the range. Quartz also lets go of its heat readily, which gives short, punchy extraction with clean flavour and less heat held between draws.
