The Angus Enhanced comes from YLLVAPE, the maker that brought ball-vape heating out of desktop machines and into a portable. It is consistently rated among the best-tasting portables, and flavour is the reason most people buy one.

It does require a little learning in return. Heat-up takes around 45 to 60 seconds, and one button with a ring of LEDs replaces a screen. In exchange you get a 100 W heater, cells you can swap yourself, and a full glass kit for long, flavourful sessions at home.

The Angus Enhanced is roughly the size of a small power bank and weighs 268 g with batteries fitted. The body is a high-temperature polycarbonate, which keeps the weight down. It also sheds heat quickly, so the body stays comfortable to hold. A textured grip band around the middle keeps it comfortable in the hand.

Openings in the body reveal the best part of the design. The bulb and ruby balls glow red through the shell, backlighting the herbs so you can see them silhouetted while you vape.

Inside, the air path is stainless steel, sealed at the top with a heat-resistant O-ring and at the base with a thick silicone gasket. That path sits isolated from the electronics, and the insulation around it is two stainless-steel sleeves with only air between them.

Carrying it is simple: take the glass mouthpiece off and the body slips into a jacket pocket. A zippered case is included for the vape and the glass, and the longest glass mouthpiece travels in its own plastic tube case.

A 100 W halogen bulb sits below the stainless-steel chamber, surrounded by a mass of synthetic ruby balls. The bulb heats those balls; the balls store that heat and radiate it back, much like the stones around a fire pit that stay warm long after the flame dies down. Air drawn through them arrives hot and clean.

The Angus Enhanced is the first portable using halogen lamp heating, which makes it a ball vape you can pick up and carry. The mix of convection and radiant heat gives a flavour character that no metal heating block can match, and it is the first thing you notice.

Nothing is wasted while it warms up, because the herbs only cook when you draw. Vapour quality also holds up late into the session, and the last draws stay close in quality to the first few.

Back-to-back sessions heat up faster than the first, because the ball mass is already fully warm.

A dial on the base tunes draw resistance from wide open to fully closed. Open it up and resistance is almost gone, giving long, easy draws. Close it down and you get a slow, gentle sip that suits passing the vape between friends.

Half open is a good default while you learn what you like. Check the dial before each session, as it is easy to forget its last position.

The kit is unusually complete for a portable. Three borosilicate glass mouthpieces (50, 70 and 90 mm) come in the box, along with a sidecar water bubbler, a glass water pipe adapter for 14 mm and 18 mm joints, a loading funnel, screens, spare O-rings, a metal-handled brush and the carry case.

Each glass mouthpiece can be loaded with 3 mm ruby balls held between two screens. The balls take heat out of the vapour on its way up, so you can adjust the smoothness through the number of balls you stack. At 210°C and above on a full chamber, the bubbler or the water pipe adapter gives a softer draw.

The mouthpieces sit on a quarter-twist collar and measure 12 mm across, so a wide range of third-party glass fits without an adapter.

Glass is the fragile part of any vaporizer, so a spare glass tube and extra ruby balls are worth adding to an order. A second sidecar bubbler is available too, all sold separately.

Temperature is set through five presets: 180, 190, 200, 210 and 220°C. Holding the button during a session adds 10°C on top, up to 230°C, and keeps the bulb heating continuously until you release the button.

Lower settings around 180 to 190°C preserve terpenes and give the purest taste. Preset three at 200°C is the popular middle ground for a longer session with thorough extraction. The top two presets pull more material out in fewer draws, and they pair best with water or a ball-loaded glass mouthpiece.

An optional desktop tool connects over USB-C and lets you reprogram all five presets between roughly 150 and 230°C. There is no smartphone app, and the vaporizer works fully without ever touching a computer.

The stainless-steel chamber holds 0.2 to 0.25 g of ground herbs. Fill it level and gap-free, then press lightly. Hard packing is not needed, and the included loading funnel screws over the top to make filling tidy.

Small loads work well too. Microdoses down to about 0.05 g work well, and dropping an empty dosing capsule on top holds a thin layer flat against the screen.

Glass dosing capsules (sold separately) keep the chamber clean, let you dose ahead of time, and let you check the state of the herbs between sessions.

You can add a 3-pack of glass capsules for a proper rotation, and a TightVac capsule holder to keep sixteen of them sorted, both sold separately.

The controls are a single button inside a ring of five LEDs, and each press needs to be deliberate.

1. Loading: Grind your herbs, screw the funnel over the chamber, fill level, then take the funnel off. A loaded glass capsule can go in instead.
2. Glass: Pick a glass mouthpiece, the bubbler or the water pipe adapter, then twist the collar fully closed so it sits securely.
3. Airflow: Set the dial on the base to the draw you want.
4. Powering on: Click the button five times within about two seconds.
5. Heating: Double-click to pick your preset and start heating. The ring blinks and the rubies glow red.
6. Inhaling: After 45 to 60 seconds the ring goes solid and the vape vibrates. Take one or two gentle warm-up draws first, then move to long, steady draws.
7. Boosting: Hold the button through the last draws to add 10°C, then release to drop back.
8. Finishing: The Angus Enhanced leaves session mode and shuts off after five minutes, or five clicks turn it off. Tip the used herbs out and sweep the chamber with the brush while it is still warm.

Two 18650 cells sit behind pop-off covers on the sides of the body. YLL Vape ships the vaporizer without cells because of lithium shipping rules. Keep a pair together as a matched set and charge them together.

Expect roughly 5 to 10 sessions per charge, depending on temperature and cells. A second matched pair means you swap in moments and continue vaping, which is the real advantage of removable cells.

Charging happens over the USB-C port on the side of the body and takes about two hours from empty. The ring flashes while charging and goes out when the cells are full, so leaving it overnight is fine. The box includes a USB-C cable; a wall adapter is not included.

Routine care is a quick sweep of the chamber with the included brush after each session, while everything is still warm. Every ten sessions or so, wipe the chamber out with an isopropyl alcohol swab. The chamber is not removable, so you clean into it from above; the lower screen lifts out.

The glass parts clean separately in an isopropyl bath or boiling water. Screens can soak in isopropyl alcohol and rinse clean.

A clean chamber matters here, since residue shortens the life of the halogen bulb. The bulb itself is user-replaceable, which is part of why this vaporizer is built to last for years. Keep it away from water.

The Venty is Storz & Bickel's flagship portable, a German-made convection vape with a bright display, app support and adjustable airflow. It heats in about 20 seconds against the Angus Enhanced's 45 to 60, reaches an 80% charge in about 40 minutes with its add-on supercharger, and is far easier to pick up and operate.

Better flavour at about half the price is the Angus Enhanced's answer, with vapour that is also gentler on the throat. Extraction between the two is essentially equal. Two user-replaceable 18650 cells stand against the Venty's sealed battery, and the box adds three glass mouthpieces, a bubbler and a water pipe adapter.

If a display and quick charging matter most, the Venty justifies its price. For taste, long-term repairability and a complete glass kit, the Angus Enhanced offers more for less money.

The Tinymight 2 is a hand-built Finnish convection portable with a wooden body, made for on-demand draws with near-instant heat-up. It is known for its powerful heater, and it runs on a replaceable 18650 cell as well. These two are among the very few top-shelf portables with cells you can swap.

Airflow you can tune, plus glass in the box separates the Angus Enhanced. Its dial moves from wide open to fully closed, while the Tinymight 2 has a fixed air path. The halogen and ruby-ball heating also gives a different flavour signature from a stainless-steel convection heater.

Both aim for the same goal in different ways. Single quick draws favour the Tinymight 2; full-chamber sessions with cooling glass favour the Angus Enhanced.

The Mighty+ is Storz & Bickel's long-running hybrid session portable, with a full display, USB-C fast charging and a large official accessory range. It is lighter at around 230 g against 268 g, chamber capacity is comparable, and both take about a minute to heat up.

Two cells you can change yourself mean a charged pair takes over in moments, while the Mighty+ runs on a sealed battery. The Angus Enhanced also adds an airflow dial where the Mighty+ has a fixed draw, and its halogen heating gives a flavour character a metal hybrid heater does not produce.

The Mighty+ is the simpler machine to learn, with a screen that tells you everything. If adjustable airflow, replaceable cells and a bubbler in the box appeal more, the Angus Enhanced offers more for less.
